Chicago Cultural Center

I went to go see the Vivian Maier exhibit at the Cultural Center in the loop last Thursday. For an unknown amateur, Maier’s work is masterful — and it left me wanting to see more. I didn’t take too many good photos at the exhibit, but my cousin and her friend Vivian (by coincidence) had a fun time exploring the building before moving on to the Art Institute.

I’ve noticed that I’ve been shooting a lot of extra wide, setting-conscious photos. Not really out of choice, but rather out of habit and the convenience of having one fast, versatile zoom lens to carry around with me. I’m going to try and make a conscious effort to take a step closer and get more intimate / detailed shots when I’m out and about.

Madhouse on Madison

I went to the Chicago Bulls-Milwaukee Bucks game earlier this week with some friends, the first time I’d been to the United Center in almost 14 years (harkening back to the Jordan dynasty era). I think I’d been here once before to see the Barnum and Bailey circus when I was younger too. Anyway, our seats just a notch above standing room (aka nosebleed section), and I was pretty lazy about walking around and getting some shots, but it was fun to watch my favorite Basketball team live again. I kinda wish they were playing someone more exciting to watch and there was more drama / suspense during the game, but a win is a win is a win.

I really need to shoot more these days.

An Exercise In Tourism

My aunt and uncle from New Jersey were in town and I took them around the city. They had been here before (maybe 5 years ago) so I took them to a few touristy places to get reacquainted.

If you know of any other spots I can take visitors to take good touristy Chicago photos, let me know, because (as you can see) everyone knows about the Planetarium spot.
