More Manhattan and a BBQ in Tenafly

Saturday: Part 11 of a 13-part series of photos documenting my trip to New York:

  • Met up with my cousins at Union Square again. This time, there was a farmer’s market there and it was pretty busy.
  • Got some grub at a street market on 6th avenue. It must have spanned like 7 city blocks.
  • Went window shopping on 5th avenue. Actually I bought some rechargeable batteries for my flash head, but I didn’t realize they don’t come pre-charged. Stupid Energizer.
  • The older cousins had to head back to Jersey to take care of some stuff for the wedding, so all the early 20’s cousins decided to explore some more around Central Park.
  • Stopped by the Guggenheim. Left after we found out it costs money. Sad because there was a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit. <3…
  • Walked around the Reservoir on the northern part of Central Park. Saw the tennis courts… and lots of trees. I like the southern half better.
  • Got some frozen yogurt before heading back to Jersey. First time I got some sprinkles in a long time. Unfortunately no pictures of mine…
  • Took the subway to the Port Authority, unfortunately my navigation skills kept getting fucked over by closed stations and lines not running all the way. Still, we got there in time.. to stand on the bus.
  • Arrived at my cousin’s place in Tenafly, NJ. Kuya Cho grilled us some burgers, hot dogs, and ribs when we got back and some of the cousins went swimming. He also showed us his special cooking apron… which he also unveiled at the after-wedding BBQ.
  • Went back to Jersey City to rest up for the WEDDING!

Coney Island and the Unisphere

Thursday Night: Part 8 of a 13-part series of photos documenting my trip to New York:

  • Took the Subway from Prospect Park in Brooklyn to Coney Island
  • Ate at Nathan’s. I only got a hot dog and a lemonade, but overall it was a pretty decent hot dog. Better than the one I got at Yankee Stadium. Joey Chestnut, I’m calling you OUT!
  • Walked around the Boardwalk and Carnival. The rides and attractions look like they are dying a slow, painful death. It’s like walking around Kiddie Land.
  • Took the Subway to Queens to see the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
  • I don’t think it was worth the hour-long trek to Queens to see only the Unisphere (which was pretty cool), but that’s probably just because I was tired from walking around in my chuck taylors for the past couple of days.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn

Thursday Afternoon: Part 7 of a 13-part series of photos documenting my trip to New York:

  • Took the PATH from Jersey City to WTC, and the Subway from WTC to Brooklyn
  • Walked around Brooklyn, ate at a diner (finally, a pretty good one!). They had a pickle platter and I ordered a Gyro.
  • Went to DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), walked to the Courthouse, then took the Subway to Prospect Park
  • Prospect Park’s naming conventions for different parts of the park are pretty awesome. It was like walking through a Tolkien book
  • The houses in Brooklyn look like they’re from the Cosby Show
  • I’ve had that Beastie Boys song stuck in my head all week.

Bowling at Night

Wednesday Night II: Part 6 of a 13-part series of photos documenting my trip to New York:

  • Got off the Subway on 14th street. By now I think I had a really good understanding of the MTA subways system.
  • When we got off some guy was washing off the pavement. Not sure why, and it smelled funny, but I didn’t really mind because wet concrete + artificial lights = my fav!
  • We waited for my cousins Nerissa, Charlene, and  Sam and Jon at a COFFEE shop.
  • We went bowling! I achieved my goal of breaking 100 and throwing the ball as hard as I could. I think if I practiced my finesse game instead of power bowling I’d get more strikes and spares. :P
  • Afterward, we drove back to Jersey City via the Holland Tunnel. Nerf’s car odometer was at 99,998 miles by the time we got back to the apartment, I was sad that I didn’t get to see it rollover to 100k.

Central Park

Wednesday Afternoon II: Part 4 of a 13-part series of photos documenting my trip to New York:

  • Met up with my brother Ian and cousin Marc outside of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Walked from the middle of Central Park to the south end; saw “Alice in Wonderland”, a castle by a lake, Balto, some rocks, and took some epic portraits
  • Relaxed at Colombus Circle before moving on
