DC Daytrip Part Tres: The Newseum

During lunch at the hotel bar, before heading out for adventure, I took out my tourist map and decided which museums to try and check out. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I probably should have gone to some museums before walking the mall to maximize my time. I narrowed it down to two museums: the Newseum and the Smithsonian Natural History museum. After doing the Mall, I only had enough time for the Newseum and decided to try and hit up the Smithsonian the next day after the main event of my trip.

Here’s a few highlights of the Newseum. So much history, some great photography exhibits, a great primer for journalism, and a great view of the city. I loved it!

There was one room full of archived newspapers of some major historical events. I took some snapshots of some of the major headlines from the past century:

DC Daytrip Part Deux: The National Mall

It’s been a while since I made a soundslide slideshow. Here I go!

The weather in DC was fantastic on the day I flew in — mid 50’s! Pretty nice, compared to the blustery 30’s I left back in Chicago.

I made the mistake of thinking I could power-walk the mall and still have time to make it to 1 or 2 museums after, despite most of them closing at ~5pm on Sunday. I was anticipating meeting someone up for dinner, but when those plans fell through, I realized (in retrospect) that should have done the museums first and mall after. Oh well.

Oh, and I wore the wrong kind of walking shoes and got a blister on my foot. I should have looked into renting a bike!

PS. I know there’s dust on my sensor, was kinda lazy in ‘shopping these. I’ll get to it eventually. And cleaning my camera too.

February Friendsgiving

My friends Ali and Cait procured a turkey a couple months ago and kept it on ice, planning to eventually have a get-together feast with some friends at their home. A good time was had by all, with good taboo games, great food (prepared by master chef for baseball stars Bryan Choi), awful sci-fi movies with great commentary, and good company all around. And it was Tim’s birthday!
