Old Fashioned

On Wednesday I went to see The Hemmingbirds perform at Reggie’s Music Joint in the South Loop. Now, Sam and I spent the summer catching up on and discussing AMC’s seminal television drama, Mad Men, and we agreed that we needed to try out Don Draper’s favorite cocktail — an Old Fasioned. It. is. awesome. We gave some to Sue to try but she didn’t like it. I think the bartender didn’t mix the bourbon-licious drink well enough, but me and Sam still enjoyed feeling like 1960’s Ad Men in a music bar. Sam (who I have been urging to get into photography) took two of these shots, can you guess which ones?

Dillo Day 2010

On Saturday I went to Dillo Day with some friends to see Regina Spektor and Guster play on the Northwestern lakefront campus. For Regina, we were pretty far out and I squeezed my way forward through the crowd with no regard for human decency. I really miss being in the pit to get really awesome, up-close performance photos, but looking back it was pretty neat being around all the crazies in the crowd and I got some photos that I probably might not have gotten from the pit. It also helps to be pretty tall. For Guster I was pretty much front row, but I was stuck at one angle the whole time. Anyway, the music was awesome, I got a wicked sunburn, and it was a good time. Also of note: Northwestern kids suck. Well only some of them. Afterwards, we ate at Dengeos, and I’d say they make a pretty solid Gyro.

Slideshow notes: I was thinking of putting it to music but was having a hard time deciding how to give equal time to Regina and Guster. Both make great music.

Holy Week

Happy Easter! Last night I went to Easter Vigil at Queen of All Saints Basillica with my mom and I think it is my favorite mass of the whole year. Sure, it’s two hours long, but it’s got candles, cool bible stories, and catechumens! I also love it because of the wonderful oratorios performed by the QAS chorus. There’s one I have stuck in my head and I can’t figure out its name just by searching on the internet.

I went to Palm Sunday mass at Holy Name Cathedral (first time in a while) and I never realized how small it is. It could fit inside Queens!
